World Wide Type

World Wide Type is a project I made during my exchange period in Germany. It consisted in the concept and communication of an exhibition about typewriters. My team and I decided to focus on two main topics: the five most spoken languages in the world and the number of Unicode glyphs used in each of them.

We wanted to create a guided experience for the visitor without any other help than signage and visual communication. Therefore we exploited every piece of space we had to connect all the elements with lines: starting from a map on the ground, to five typewriters and posters, to a monitor showing the Unicode glyphs, to iPads for exploring interactively the Unicode.
The visitor was then free to choose either to follow the lines and see connections and differences between each language or explore the exhibition in his own way.
