Background
The ATHENS 2004 Olympic Torch Relay presented by Coca-Cola and Samsung take place in Beijing on June 9, 2004. The Olympic flame was lit in ancient Olympia, Greece on 25 March 2004 signaling the countdown to the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games. It journeyed for 7 days to Athens, where it is remain in residence at the Panathinaiko stadium, the site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. Beginning June 4th, the flame begin its global journey in Sydney, Australia visiting 34 cities worldwide, (including ancient Olympia) en route to Greece. The flame is travel an average of 48 kilometres (30 miles) in each city. For the first time, the torch relay travel across all five land masses represented by the Olympic rings. More than 10,000 Olympic Torchbearers worldwide were nominated by family, friends and colleagues, and selected by local cities, Coca-Cola and Samsung for showcasing the best in humanity for each city. Overall, approximately 3,600 torchbearers carry the Olympic flame along the international route, about 100-120 torchbearers per city. The routes in each city will be announced within several weeks. Names of certain torchbearers may be withheld at their request.
About the design
Mar.26, 2004, I got company's briefing for Coca-Cola bottle design as a limited edition souvenir for Beijing Torch Relay event, I decide to leverage Chinese elements for the bottle and key visual design.
I use traditional Chinese silk embroidery with dragon graphic as a world map (Chinese dragons are powerful and benevolent symbols in Chinese culture) , Chinese seal cutting to mark 34 cities worldwide, and Chinese calligraphy mark the rout of the relay, introduce Chinese culture to the world.
