A Luglio ho lavorato per la seconda illustrazione dedicata all'associazione culturale "le Strenghe" in occasione dello spettacolo teatrale "Il Drago di Evgenij Schwarz".

Gli elementi che avevo a disposizione era la consapevolezza che il drago sarebbe stato impersonato da tre donne, mentre il protagonista sarebbe stato una sorta di guerriero errante, con influenze orientali. Infine una damigella da salvare.

Dopo aver ricercato e studiato il dramma, ho deciso di raffigurare l'illustrazione con alcuni elementi chiave. Per cominciare, ho deciso che le donne avrebbero avuto una fisionomia dragonica sia nei lineamenti ma, soprattutto, con la posa e le vesti avrebbero dovuto ricreare la silhouette di un drago. Così le braccia delle donne divengono fauci, i loro volti gl'elementi del muso del drago, il drappo sulle loro spalle le ali, mentre le loro gonne il corpo massiccio del drago.

In July I've worked to the second illustration for the "Associazione culturale "le StreNghe" doing a poster for the theater masterpiece "The Dragon - Evgenij Schwarz".

The elements I'd were the consciousness that the Dragon would be played  by three different women, while the protagonist was a sort of knight errant with oriental influence. Other than them there'd be a damsel in distress.

After the research and study of the drama, I've decided to figurate the illustration with some key elements.
First of all, the women 'd be a silhouette that'd reminds the dragon. So the arms became tooth, their faces the mouth's Dragon elements, the tarp on their shoulders the wings, while their skirts became the massive body of the Dragon.

Per il cavaliere mi sono rifatto alla postura e fierezza della statua celebrativa di Pierre Terrail de Bayard, il famoso cavaliere senza macchia e senza paura e Brancaleone. Ma il suo aspetto era troppo occidentale ancora, così ho cominciato a lavorare su un aspetto maggiormente orientale.
La damigella è Fay Wray, la bella di King Kong. E' quasi stracciata dalle sue vesti, in ginocchio, sopraffatta dall'oppressione del Drago (che rappresenta il nazismo e la dittatura in generale). Nel mio immaginario la damigella è la libertà e la democrazia, oppressa dalla dittatura.

For the knight I've taken inspiration from the posture and fierceness of the famous Pierre Terrail de Bayard, the celebrated  knight in shining armor, and Brancaleone. But his aspect was still too much occidental, so I've worked on a more oriental one.

The damsel is Fay Wray, the beauty from King Kong. She's undressed, on his knees, defeated from the Dragon's oppression (who represent the nazi and the dictatorship in general). In my mind the damsel is the freedom and the democracy, oppressed by the dictatorship.

Per l'ambientazione sin da subito ho pensato alle atmosfere dell'abazia dove si sarebbe svolto lo spettacolo teatrale. Questo in principio per richiamare la location dove si sarebbe svolto lo spettacolo, ma anche perché ricreava perfettamente l'idea dell'interno di un castello, oltre che le atmosfere di un paese degl'inizi dell'900.
Lo stesso ragionamento mi ha spinto ad utilizzare i colori ocra contrapposti al vivido viola minaccioso delle vesti del drago, che minacciosamente avvolgono il cavaliere e la damigella.

Per finire, la damigella ha gli stessi colori dell'esterno, questo perché lei rappresenta la pura anima della città fuori del castello. Lei è la cittadella e la sua gente.

For the ambient from the beginning I've thought at the abbey where the show'd be played. This so to recall the location, but either cause that location recreates perfectly the idea of a castle's inner, other than the atmosphere of the early '900.

Same reasoning has been done for the colors, using peaceful ochre  against the strong and aggressive violet who represent the dragon's body. Strong violet that menacingly surround the Knight and the Damsel.

In the final the Damsel has the same colors of the exterior, cause she's the pure soul of the citadel outside the castle. She's the citadel and the people who live here.
