Botsford-Swinford Kickoff

Botsford-Swinford Hall, affectionately known as BotSwin, is no ordinary collegiate residence hall.  The typical dorm is an aging building where from differing backgrounds become a self-contained community under the leadership of their RAs and Hall Director.  Some are social, some are not, but they tend to exist as their own sovereign islands.  Not BotSwin.
BotSwin is home two the Emerging Media & Communications Living Learning Communities thanks to a partnership with the College of Communication, Information, & Media.  Because of that relationship, the faculty of the CCIM are invested in providing the residents the opportunity to succeed in pursuits relevant to the College.  One way they do that is to show up and network with students at the annual kickoff event.  Starting college can be intimidating, but it's easier if you meet your professors at a party with snacks and friends.
Once everyone has had time to chat & munch on hors d'oeuvres, CCIM Associate Dean Lori Byers speaks to the importance of getting involved and highlights the ways in which the CCIM is making an effort to help students find activities & organizations they can participate in to gain experience, network with peers & faculty, & have fun.  The highlight of her speech is to check out the best party on campus - SuperParty - the CCIM's activity fair complete with free pizza, music by WCRD, & a cake walk.
After the networking, snacking, & speeches, residents are invited to take a tour of the production facilities and go through equipment training for the abundance of audio and video gear that the hall is fortunate enough to rent out.  From DSLRs to boom mics, residents were given a crash course on the equipment they'll have access to as residents of BotSwin.
