A small collection of mixed digital media artworks and prints done juxtaposing some of my closest friends into popular renaissance era paintings and modern pop art album covers. The works explore my current theme of investigating the colour orange. 
"Boopy with A Pearl Earing" is an artwork of Swazi born mother of dragons, lawyer & self-proclaimed writer of inappropriate African tales, Ningi Mabelemade kaSangweni. Artwork done in paying homage to "Girl with a Pearl Earing" (Portrait) by the 17th century Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer, from 1665
“Portrait of a Khabazela” is an artwork of writer, Zulu culture historian & self proclaimed alcoholic Zanoxolo Mkhize. Artwork done in paying homage to “Portrait of a Man” (Self Portrait) by the Early Netherlandish oil painting master Jan van Eyck, from 1433
“The Birth of Mamlambo” is based on Zimbabwean born feminist, writer and digital activist Chido Muparutsa. this piece is an adaptation of “The Birth of Venus” by Italian renaissance era painter Sandro Botticelli in 1486
"Portrait of a Prince" is an artwork of KwaNongoma (South Africa) based musician Zulusoul, son of His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu. Artwork done in paying homage the infamous album cover for Antidotes by British indie rock band Foals
"Pastel Lips" is an artwork created in homage to deceased Durban street art legend and graffiti artist Pastelheart. Pastels signature was his usage of lips in his artworks, and is said to have been the only man to have kissed the whole city of Durban. The current artwork was based of the interpreting the lips of Durban musician Tuko
“The Sleeping Art-Papi” is a self-portrait made using the modelling work of 80’s nude model Ellaine Collins, also known as Georgia Jackson. Re-looking at the male gaze of feminine muses in western art, the piece is an adaptation of the little known painting titled “The Sleeping Bather” by French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir made in 1897
Portrait artwork of Emmanual Makhoba represented as the winged figure after completing a customary Zulu spiritual cleansing ceremony. The piece is an interpretation of “A Winged Figure” by American painter Abbott Handerson Thayer. Created in 2021
Titled "Queen Nandi" this portrait of Nandi Zulu-Peck made in late 2021 is a piece “inspired” from the work of female renaissance artist and painter Sofonisba Anguissola. This artwork is taken from her painting of Princess Joanna of Portugal. The original piece is dated 1560.
“Portrait of Zamadonda Kasaba & Her Family” is a portrait comissioned in 2021. The artwork was done in paying homage to “Portrait of Arrigo Licinio and His Family” by Italian High Renaissance Painter of Venice and Lombardy, Bernardino Licinio.
