Beginning in Bozeman, Montana, the Winter Tour ends in Jackson, Wyoming. Suitable for experienced hikers only, the trail traverses some spectacular scenery as it passes through Gallatin National Forest, Grand Teton National Park, and Yellowstone National Park, all home to a variety of wildlife, including bison, grizzly bears, and wolves.

Hikers on the trail must beware of unpredictable weather and avalanches as well. Choosing to ski instead may present a better option during the wintertime while spring offers warmer weather and safer conditions for hiking.
