Persatuan Sepak Bola Indonesia Balikpapan, commonly known as Persiba Balikpapan, or Persiba, is an Indonesian football club based in Balikpapan. We were tasked to design their kit for the upcoming 2017 season.

The task was to design a home kit jersey based on their 1984 home kit. A retro look for a club that is transforming to a modern club with a new management format, a new magnificent stadium that is set to be the new national stadium of Indonesia, and of course new players. So designing a retro yet modern kit was our main goal.

We added details to the home kit to make it not as plain as the retro kit. We studied the football atmosphere in Indonesia has a taste of complexity design for the kits. A plain design is not a common option for supporters and that includes the kit design with a cultural element, also to the sponsors layout.

On that reason we added a 'V' element on the front kit and added a thunderous design for the side of the kit.

For the away kit, we had a special task to add an iconic element for the kit. 'Beruang Madu' or 'The Sun Bears' is the club's nickname, taken from the city mascot of Balikpapan, Sun Bear. We added a mixed grizzly and sun bear design to make a bold appearance on the kit. We were forced to combine a appearance of a grizzly and sun bear due to the kinda cute and lovely looks of a sun bear but we needed a fierce grizzly look.
