March of Dimes - United States Earns a "C" Grade

As president of commercial operations, Terrell “Terry” Herring makes key decisions for Mission Pharmacal and the Mission Family of Companies. Terrell Herring and his associates at Mission are active in community support, and routinely contribute to March of Dimes and March for Babies.

March of Dimes began when President Franklin Roosevelt created a campaign to fight polio in the United States. After the successful eradication of polio through vaccinations, the March of Dimes began to focus on other health problems that threaten American infants. It is now dedicated to preventing premature births and birth defects, both of which contribute to infant mortality.

The preterm birth rate recently increased in the United States, marking a serious step backward for neonatal care. The March of Dimes releases a Premature Birth Report Card each year, complete with a letter grade for each state. The United States earned a C overall in 2016. Only four states earned an A grade: Washington, Oregon, Vermont, and New Hampshire. Three states earned a failing grade last year: Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.
