Oaktree and Willow

The 'Oaktree and Willow' collection seeks to combine carefully dyed greens, purples and orange yarns with hand machine knit patterns and textures. The project evolved as a collaboration between the Massey University second year textiles class and Wellington Girls College Yr13 textiles class. My students, who became my clients, both have a great love for the outdoors and make use of the walking tracks in town.

All cushions feature a striped retro pattern which incorporates textures inspired by bark patterns found on trees in the Mount Victoria summit walking track in Wellington. All cushions have a woollen felted back panel, which provide a soft and durable finish. Each cushion has a strong magnet sewn into the corners which gives the option to connect the cushions together to form one big floor cushion.

Specially placed yarns to replicate tree bark pattern.
Manipulating puckers on the knit machine to imitate tree bark texture.
