WIRE: CHAIN REACTION
"Chain reaction: a process in which the result of one event triggers another event, usually of the same kind, which in turn triggers yet another event, so that the overall reaction tends to be self-sustaining." Using the idea of chain reaction as inspiration you are to design and create a chain. (...)

my response.
I have researched various types of chains - I started with the jewellery, decorative and delicate chains, then through the bicycle chain I got to the bigger scale up to these used in ships etc. The bigger ones made me think of the slavery. I realised that the exact same thing, chain, can depict two distant worlds, it seems to connect the world of rich and poor. Obviously, it is completely different kind of chain but it is still the same thing. In one material and context, it is a symbol of slavery, poverty and lack of freedom, while in another, the same thing symbolises the wealth, prestige and a high social position. My final object, titled SOCIAL CHAIN REACTION is built from 3 different materials: clay, copper and silver. They all have different properties, look, meaning, and are meant to symbolise three different social categories. They are all mixed together, same as our society underlying the mutual interactions.
