Crop is an Australian magazine that places emphasis on contemporary and historic design and culture practices. Typography Issue One: East Meets West, is an exploration into traditional Western and contemporary Eastern contexts of typography. This blurring boundary that is mentioned in Kenya Hara’s feature article Typeface and Typography, is expressed through the echoed warped Hangul characters that are evident on the front cover of Crop Issue One. Their elongated form creates a rhythmic flow down the page, referencing the underlying beauty that is visualised in Eastern design. Although these words may not be readable for a Western audience, its purpose and use is still highly regarded and accepted in today’s society.

Crop magazine will be recognised in contemporary Australia through its symbolic, bold masthead that will appear on each issue as well as the world’s current trends and their perceptions of design and culture.
