Twords is a typographic publication highlighting the relationship between perception and language in relation to the natural world. It focuses on a series of twelve original portmanteaus that have been generated in response to significant concepts explored in Interlacing Words and Things–Bridging the Nature-Culture Opposition in Gardens and Landscape, edited by Stephen Bann in 2012. It is a celebration of the title, where two words are physically interlaced to infer new meaning based on its context.

This project was submitted in response to the 2017 ISTD Brief–The Dead Wood Archive.
The publication incorporates a playful and experimental commentary on the different forms and absences of language. The portmanteaus act as chapter titles and ‘identities’ where experimental typography is used to allude to terms we are already familiar with in society. Audience perception and interaction is key throughout Twords, where individuals are given the opportunity to create a change in the spreads original form, revealing information and embarking on a journey of representations.
