Jekyll & Hide Leather

Jekyll & Hide Catalogue 2014

Jekyll & Hide came to us to reposition the brand and design and build their new e-commerce website. It needed to be a visually engaging digital shop front, showcasing the luxurious genuine leather products they produce and giving the user the opportunity to experience this authentic luxury brand online.

We went on to conceive and produce their product catalogue for 2014 and created a new brand campaign in line with the refreshed look and feel, catering to the tastes of both the local and international markets.

We produced and shot this new campaign with Cape Town-based photographer, Romi Stern (from Supernova Creative Management, Cape Town) on location in and around the Durbanville Hills, just outside Cape Town. It is currently being used through all their communication channels.

Technically speaking, the entire site is custom-built. The shop section of the site is built utilizing Dalmatian’s e-commerce framework, a basic platform from which to quickly develop online stores.
The framework is focused on providing the functionality required to work with store data immediately, including allowing developers to focus their time on the presentation layers required rather than writing reams of boilerplate code, the basic installation providing the database, all data methods, and a CMS to manage product and store information.

All business and data functionality is provided in separate libraries that can be linked to individual projects, be they websites, mobisites, or intermediary services. Also provided are several optional AJAX controls for common tasks such as form validation that can be customised simply by passing a JSON configuration object to the validator at the time the form is instantiated, again saving development time on otherwise tedious and repetitive tasks whilst simultaneously providing a slick Web 2.0 user experience through the removal of post backs.

The shop framework is not intended for off-the-shelf use by the likes of the WordPress demographic and requires an experienced developer to work with it. This is deliberate and allows for the maximum flexibility in user-interface design rather than forcing designers to work within the constraints of a pre-defined presentation model.
