Hyson Green Zines is an experimental editorial series, featuring miniature stories of my encounters in an unfamiliar neighborhood. After being tasked to research and explore Hyson Green, I engaged in conversation with many of its residents, to build an honest and varied picture of the area. The project then became a tribute to these conversations.
The zines use selective detail to build as much of a story as possible, in very few sentences. I chose not to illustrated the people featured, but to instead feature the surroundings of each conversation, to provide anonymity. This allowed to include controversial opinions and mentions of illegal activity, allowing the conversations to be raw, open and honest.
