Metalac water heater concept

Metalac water heater concept
Metalac company is located in Gornji Milanovac, Serbia. It is one of Serbia's biggest and most successful companies. Their competition are also large companies such as Ariston, Siemens, Gorenje. This project was conducted between Metalac company and industrial design section of Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade.
The main idea of my concept was to completely change the appearance of classic, rounded water heaters that are all over the market these days.
What is actually water? What shapes and forms does it take in nature? How should a product containing and preserving water look like? What is the strongest and safest way of preserving water in nature? Of course, Ice. I found my inspiration in numerous shapes and colors of ice, and tried to transport those stunning forms into this product.
Afterwards i had to figure out how to make that complex shell functional and simple for production. After lots of solutions and ideas the simplest way was found. The shell is divided into four segments, but there is actually only one part which is repeated 4 times.
After the segments of the shell are welded or banded together with pop rivets, upper and lower cover lids are connected. Lower cover lid is connected to the shell through the connection panel as shown on this explosion and the upper lid is connected directly to the shell.
For the display i had several solutions with touch sensitive panels, touch screen or just a display with buttons on the sides. The most eye catching solution would, of course, be the one with touch screen. Programming it the heat up the water when its told, or to warn you to save some hot water for others in the house is something that you can do even with a remote control, but with touch screen you can go further, playing games, watching videos or pictures while taking a shower.
In the end touch sensitive panel with regular display, such are ones for micro waves,  was chosen as more economical solution.
