Classical Noise - Audio Installation

Classical noise
audio installation, 2014.

The work is performed as an audio installation and goes into a loop.
The work is made of classical music compositions. Used music tracks are processed so that every track contains every moment of itself during the time  - the resulting "noise" contains all the music elements of the composition at one moment. These processed tracks are played on the speakers in the exhibition space and the original ones are synchronized with them but played on the "open" headphones (or small lamp-speakers) at the same exhibition space. Without headphones, the "noise" in the space is unpleasant, but when we put the headphones on, the synthesis that is created between the original classical composition and the external "noise" creates a field in which, due to the dominance of the basic tonality of the composition, leads to the merging and acceptance of the "noise" as pleasant and enjoyable.

*Note: The work is impossible to simulate because it requires a certain form of reproduction and perception - a division into two synchronized channels: one directed to the speaker system in the space, and the other directed to the "open" headphones/small lamp-speakers in the same space.

Examples:

Johann Pachelbel - Canon in D Major
1/ Processed  track  (speakers)
2/ Original track  ("open" headphones/small lamp-speakers)
*adjust the volumes to hear both tracks
Johann Sebastian Bach - Toccata in D minor
1/ Processed  track  (speakers)
2/ Original track  ("open" headphones/small lamp-speakers)
*adjust the volumes to hear both tracks
