Zhuhai Gongbei trade center can be seen as a collection or patchwork of city blocks to be designed, while some of which are to be maintained, this prompted the image that Gongbei was in essence a collage, but also using this as a technique to further analyze the project area, and understand it not as a whole site but an assemblage of different forms/sites, thus creating a new whole.
In this design the pre-existing flood channels are naturalized so that concrete and hard surfaces are replaced with grassy surfaces and indigenous planting which allows an ecosystem to develop along its path, making use of solar energy that falls on them, making it pleasant to walk along, possible for children to play near and providing natural drainage where animals and plants can survive; a bio-network that responds to the seasons.
A convention center and hotel complex is anchoring Zhuhai Gonbei’s planning as the city focal point for economic growth as well as the architectural backdrop to city events and public gatherings. .
