The project "Our Brushes' Story" was born from the marriage between us, two students of design, and the tradition and wisdom of “Escovaria de Belomonte” , that has been located, since 1927, in the dark and narrow street, Rua de Belomonte, in the city of Porto, Portugal.
"Our Brushes' Story" reveals the possibilities of linking this forgotten manual craft to design, revitalizing its history. Therefore, we have shown the importance of keeping these traditions alive before they die for good.
In this small collection, we consider that the user must have freedom from the way he makes use of brush hair (bristle), not defining in a concrete way its functionality. We rely on a potential pencil cup or jar and a lamp, which takes advantage of the fiber's resistance and the light effect that it provides.
Recently, this project was exhibited in the Open Galleries of the Fine Arts University of Lisbon (May 2017).
