Colouring was a key publishing trend of 2015, and I was asked to design the pilot issue of a new magazine aimed at pre-teen girls to capitalise on the craze.
The package came in a bright, colourful card envelope, featuring a number of the most popular brands and celebrities we knew the target audience already loved.
The interior pages were a mix of specially commissioned and stock illustrations. I was asked to colour in some areas of the page as a visual clue. Each page had an extra-wide, patterned border to provide an additional colouring activity.
The magazine also featured Disney-style artwork – including this not-quite One Direction by lead illustrator Faye Yong.
Each feature was introduced by a new character called Doodle Bug, devised in-house by the team and brought to life by Faye Yong.
