THE GREAT AMERICAN PANTRY
PROJECT BRIEF:
The objective of this project was to create a catalog (a list or record) using the theme “not for sale.” It was up to the individual to decide how to interpret the theme. The theme made me think about the food industry in the United States, where a plethora of artificial ingredients and preservatives are used; therefore, the food should not be for sale. I perfect bound two copies of this catalog by hand.
The Great American Pantry is a collection of artificial ingredients added to food in the United States.
The first section is a list of nearly 2,000 artificial ingredients, and the second section goes into further detail about some of the ingredients listed.
Alternative names, items the ingredient is found in, and side effects of the ingredient are listed opposite of an image.
I created the each image to be a combination of one food item and one non-food item that share the same ingredient described on that page.
