The Waitress
A New Book
This was a brief set by the ISTD, which required us to design a’new book’ based on the fairy tale ‘The Waitress’ by Jack Zipes.

My concept was formed from ideas found in two quotes by Jack Zipes; One was that characters in fairytales represent the people reading them. Secondly was the idea that reading a fairytale is a strange and uncanny experience that separates the reader from the restrictions of real life.

I used experimental typography to represent a seperation from reality. I cut out the names of the protagonists from the pages in the book, with dotted lines visible on the page below that the reader could write their name on inserting themselves into the story.
