The Alchemist - Initial Process

The following frames are part of my initial thought process for my ongoing project "The Alchemist". Most of these frames did not make it into the final sequence, but they helped me visualize and understand what I needed to do in order to achieve overall cohesiveness within a consistent mood.
Before I started designing frames, I broke down The Alchemist into several main ideas touched within the book that I knew were vital to portray in order to relate any visual back to the story.
My very early concept had to do with the idea of rebirth, balance, and force of nature. In the book "The Alchemist", the protagonist, Santiago, found his true self after having a close experience with all the elements. By having that as a starting point, I started wondering what type of mood that type of imagery would convey, and started experimenting with soft, dreamy colors, as well as centered and symmetrical compositions.
As I kept moving forward, I realized that the compositions of the previous frames were not as engaging and did not really showed what The Alchemist was truly about, which was dealing with the ups and downs of life, and sometimes being shadowed by life events. Experimenting with gold materials, lights, and shadows was vital to inspire a new vision of what the sequence could potentially look like.
Thank you very much for watching!
As always, please feel free to share your thoughts!
Buenas vibras a todos.
