“Human Rights” & “Unrecognized Nation”

“Human Rights” & “Unrecognized Nation” | Typography II | February 2017

Using the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Preamble as copy, several digital sketches will be created. The first part involves experimenting with column width in an axial system, the second using transparency to draw attention, the third with focus on horizontal movement, part four experiments with shaped background, the fifth part with implied shaped axis and the sixth and final part with a diagonal axis. After these six design studies, a final series of two posters will be created with the first using the preamble of the declaration and the second highlighting a selected article from the declaration as well as chosen research to discuss human rights violations, both posters utilizing the techniques of the previous design studies.

Using the techniques from the initial six design studies, the design for the final two posters paid particular attention to diagonal and shaped axis as the grid to hold the content together. Color schemes relied on colors from the Israeli and Palestinian Flags, and are used as ways to focus attention as well as to increase legibility. Both posters are designed using inverse color schemes to unify the designs, but to prevent them from being too visually similar. The images chosen for the posters directly relate to the topic they are discussing, with the research poster using an image of the border wall filled with graffiti to emphasize the theme of the poster as well as for visual interest.
