"Mouse Trap"
JUXTA-PUTT PUTT was an installation of artist-designed and fabricated putting greens for Artspace in Shreveport, Louisiana, I created "Mouse Trap" with a Marcel Duchamp meets Rube Goldberg mentality. It is a functioning and completely mechanized putting green with a single sprocket electric motor, pulley belt created from the inner tube of a bicycle and various other bicycle parts, spiral tubes created from vent hoses attached with open painted PVC tubes cut in half for the golf ball as it goes around the tubes,  and reclaimed wood from a retail boat dock used to sell boats.

This exhibition started on June 1st and ended on Aug 4th of 2012.

Juxta-Putt Putt

The “MouseTrap” putting green is a project of personal evolution as a fabricator. It combines functionality and art; two things which are often seen at odds with one another. It began as a concept for a playful, brightly colored installation much like a classic children's game and evolved into a turn-of-the-century amalgam of found objects that when placed a certain way, create a chain reaction of events that work together to achieve an end result. Many of the color choices, cogs and wheel designs were inspired by the film “Hugo.” Contributing artists, John Bicknell and Kathryn Day referred to the works of Marcel Duchamp when describing its new appearance with rotating bicycle wheels and distressed wooden towers. Overall, the project was a great challenge but opened doors to a whole new type of art and design for JRyanArtist. An installation can serve a purpose or function but look unique and intriguing all at the same time
