Leoa Cellars Branding

A new winery based in Paso Robles, California came to us for help with the naming of their company and the rest of their branding; from logo development, wine labels, identity stationery, and a website.

After much discussions (with liberal amounts of food and wine) the name Leoa Cellars was chosen. It was inspired by Leo Augustine, their grandfather, who started the family farm and also by the combination of the two partners astrological signs - Leo and Aries. We explored combining the zodiac symbols in ways that related to viticulture. Since the winery is new it was important to the partners that the logo reflect their farming heritage yet be hip and modern at the same time. We accomplished this by combining a rustic typeface with a clean modern font.

Two labels were produced, a red for their Syrah and a green or their Rousanne. The areas of color were printed with metallic foil while the Leoa part of the logo was printed in raised, embossed black ink for a tactile feel.
For Leoa's business identity, we chose to use a vertical format for their business cards to match the wine labels. To reinforce the visual brand, we kept the same open, asymmetric layout with alternating lines of text that from the wine labels.
The Leoa Cellars website is in the concept phase. Below is one direction we are pursuing. We kept the clean, open layout using white space to focus attention on the products. To drive repeat traffic, we included a wine makers education blog and a travel section for exploring California's Central Coast region.
