In my second quarter of my first year at Rochester Institute of Technology, we were tasked with creating an environment within which nature can reclaim itself, and we had to document what the scene would look like before nature took it's toll, and the aftermath. So I thought, "Okay, I can roll with this". Having experienced something very similar to this in my youth with going through Katrina in 2005, I decided to go back to my roots with a hurricane. So I took a swamp scene (or if you would prefer, bayou) made it look as inhabitable as would be possible, then had a little fun.
This piece took me about 2 weeks and helped me a lot in experimentation with shaders and how they can be networked together. My pride and joy of this piece would have to be the water. I used the facing ratio and a few ramp shader nodes to fake reflection/refraction on the water for both of the scenes, and even went so far as to mess with the specular to fake rain on the water and overlay a texture in Photoshop.
Programs used: Photoshop, Autodesk Maya 2012
