China Earthquake Relief Poster 24" x 36"

On May 12, 2008, a devastating 8.0 quake struck Sichuan, China. I was traveling in China at the time as part of the AIGA XCD Design Expedition. To help mobilize resources and engage the creative community, a benefit poster exhibition was organized by the Sichuan Designers Association. I was honored to be invited to participate. The final posters comprised a traveling exhibit, and were also posted outdoors throughout communities effected by the disaster. My entry shows a stylized map of China superimposed on a cracked wall, which was taken in a Shanghai park just days before the quake. The Chinese and English text is adapted from an old Chinese proverb comparing the resiliency of man to the strong yet yielding nature of bamboo.
