'CORRUPTED FILES' COLLABORATION PROJECT
For this project we created an experimental publication revolving around the concept of Remix and learn more about printing presses and the technique of Risograph printing.
The Narrative of our book focuses on the frustration that can occur when operating software systems. We capture the faults in the digital world through the distorted nature of our physical print. Our content represents imagery that can be seen online when you take a wrong turn, it use glitches, Windows pop up’s, confused coding, and messages such as ‘Loading’, ‘error retry’, ‘image not available’, ‘page not found’ and ‘error 404’. We even used non-chronological and absurd page numbers, so that when a page in the book redirects you somewhere else in the book (similarly to a browser online), the reader has to flick through the entire book to find that page. Therefore capturing the essence of frustration when online.
We used techniques and tools such as photoshop, liquify, glitch art, coding, illustration and scanography. The bind is a spiral bind done by Rope press in Digbeth, Birmingham. We also made an Instagram page after discussion over whether the book still exists or is dead because digital media gives anyone the tools to be able to publish.
