BEHIND THE SCENES | OuT of FocuS |

We are Beny, Nina, Esat, Stephanie and Paulina (l to r), five students of “Digital Media Design” at the University of applied sciences in Ravensburg-Weingarten, Germany. On our team page you see our work examples we made for the photography project in the lecture/workshop “Digitale Bildgestaltung” (WS 2016/2017).

In this lecture we learned to use conceptual, creative and practical fundamentals of art work and photography. As a team, we designed and produced photos by using and handling digital cameras. During this process we took pictures with different digital camera types, different settings and camera parameters. We also acquaint with lighting settings and gained experience in working with tools of art work to achieve the favored result.

We arranged the photos in various projects as you can see on our team page.

|  PORTRAIT  |  MY MOMENT  |  HOMAGE  |  SYMBOL |  HIGHKEY  |  LOWKEY  |  THREE POINT LIGHTING  |  PROJECTION  |  COLOR  |

The main photo of each category on the team page is published with the values: camera type, focal length, exposure time, aperture and ISO. We also added some pictures and sketches of the setting to show how we realized our work.

first steps
One idea we had was about playing with the shadow of a mosaic pattern. To realize that, we first used a cardboard box and cut out forms like polygons and rectangles. The model had to hold this prepared cardboard against the light and there occurred a mosaic shadow on her face.
But that did not work quite well and it did not look very professional. We had to develop our original “mosaic pattern” idea.
Next step was to choose pictures with patterns of a google image search. At least we used a projector to display this pictures of patterns onto the face of the models who stood in front of a black background. This way we created a perplexing play of colors and patterns on the surfaces of the models' heads. You can see our favored pictures in the project  PROJECTION  or  portrait.
