In early 2016, it was announced by the Central Bank of Argentina that a new series of coins would be issued for the year of 2017, as well as a new series of banknotes who would be animal themed. Due to the lack of information on the theme that the new coinage would represent, imagination led me to the design of a sculpture-themed series.
The series of four coins is inspired in the four most well-known sculptures of the country: the Statue of Liberty on top of the May Pyramid, the Statue of the Republic on top of the Monument to the Carta Magna and Four Regions of Argentina, the Statue of Liberty in the Cerro de la Gloria in Mendoza, and the Statue of Venus and the Nereidas in Buenos Aires. As well, the national flower, the ceibo, was included in both the depiction of the sculptures and as a wreath in the reverse of the coins, along with the map of Argentina (including its claims over the Falkland Islands).
