Learning Blender - Donut Render

I've always been involved in motion graphics, animation, some graphic design, and even some 3D texturing. But never 3D modelling. I've always been a fan, and it's about time I learned a thing or two.
Because I'm not made of money, I decided to begin my journey with Blender, an open source 3D creation software. I still to this day can't believe what's possible with this FREE software.
Armed with this, all I needed was some learning material. Enter Blender Guru, a website run by a very generous fellow Aussie Andrew Price. Thanks to Andrew's FREE tutorials and wealth of blog articles, I was able to develop a hunger to learn more. The below images are a result of following his 9 part series for Blender beginners.
Feedback welcome! Let me know what I can improve. I modelled the plate and mug off ones I have in my house. The backdrop is a photo of my loungeroom.
I wanted to add some steam above the coffee mug in Blender but got too confused. I ended up just painting it in Photoshop afterwards. I also had an annoying issue with one of the sprinkle particles behind the donut (shown in the shot below) showing up as a dot of some sort. I think there were three in the same space, each slightly rotated.
