Bidvest Waltons Success Quest

The back-to-school market has become highly competitive in the last ten years due to growth of larger retailers 
back-to-school offerings, Waltons had been experiencing increasing losses over this vital period, still using a printed catalogue and ordering system, we were tasked to solve this problem during the back-to-school period.

Solution
We approached the project with the intention to convert the influencers in the buying process, the children. 

As a result we created a Waltons World filled with animated characters and environments, utilising Augmented Reality we made the world accessible via mobile devices and drove foot traffic to the Waltons Stores with an in-store game to discover hidden areas within the digital Waltons World. (These hidden areas enabled by AR markers could only be found in-store or within the printed order catalogues.)  

The campaign also included a roadshow that visited schools, the roadshow included a wall mounted Augmented Reality map that the children could explore through their mobile devices or devices provided by the roadshow.
The App also housed a competition: if the user scanned and collected all the AR markers, they would be prompted to enter and possibly win large discounts on their purchase of the featured brands in the App.

We gained enough budget for the project by offering Waltons suppliers the chance to have their own character and environment in the Waltons World, this gave Waltons suppliers more exposure and popularity with the target-market.

As a result, foot traffic in-store increased by 42% over the November to January period, with returning customers increasing with 34%. Overall sales during the period increased with 19%, the highest growth Bidvest Waltons had seen in 5 years.

Future implementation plans for games featuring the characters, online ordering and a loyalty program.
