Pun-O-Sophy t-shirt Design

Pun-o-Sophy Doodles

I made this design for the Philosophy Department at my college. This was later printed on t-shirts and sweatshirts for the department and was sold to all students. The idea came to me when I was tired of the usual over-used, unoriginal quotes used for the department merchandise year after year and had underwhelming responses. I wanted to make something fun and original that everyone could understand.

Usually philosophy is associated with long essays, books and theoretical knowledge, which can sometimes be tedious and tiresome to study. I therefore decided to incorporate at little humour into philosophy and interpreted Philosophers’ names using puns, such as (René) Descartes (pronounced day-cart), a philosopher expressed using the Sun (representing day) and a shopping cart. Similarly, Nietzsche expressed by using the Hindi terms “upar” and “neeche” (which sounds like Nietzsche), meaning up & down respectively.
