My Life in Gifts

Brief: Create a poster depicting a collection of twelve items.

Sentimental as I am, I knew almost immediately that I wanted to use personal gifts that I had been given as my items for the collection. I immediately cataloged, sorted, and otherwise gathered objective data on items that would otherwise be seen more as interpretive before getting to work on figuring out how to depict them.
I originally wanted to use photographs of the items for this poster. As I continued to work on it, I started to think a collage effect would better show the personal emotion associated with the items. I cut the photos out and drew all over them. This didn't feel quite right either. So I drew all of the gifts with pen, scanned them into the computer, and colored them based on the first gift I ever received: my baby blanket.
The final poster is a rough timeline of my life as narrated by my experiences with other people, aptly titled "My Life in Gifts."

My Life in Gifts

A poster that's also kind of a timeline of my life as told by experiences with others which kind of feels like a journal.
