For this portrait exercise we found an old black and white image on the internet to recreate. I found mine in a British University archive of the American 1800’s, a picture of a Native American man, close the maternal side of my family’s heritage. I used vine charcoal and a compressed charcoal pencil, and using a kneaded eraser to bring out the highlights.
