During the midst of a completely unexpected and enthralling Premier League season, Leicester City qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history.
To mark the occasion, I put together the above graphic.
As the achievement was so large, I decided to let the occasion to the talking. By design, the graphic was left stark, simple and subtle. Posted on social media the morning after Leicester City's qualification was secured, the graphic was accompanied by the text, "Good morning, everyone."
This matter-of-fact tone and the minimalist nature of the graphic resonated around the world and was picked up by dozens of prominent media outlets.
There was a level of symmetry present, also. The result that guaranteed Leicester City Champions League football came against the same team that also guaranteed them Premier League safety the season before— Sunderland.
