Voltron Fútbol Club (VFC) is an indoor soccer club that I played with in Barcelona. After a disappointing mid-table finish, I decided to redesign our 2012-13 kit in an effort to reinvigorate the team’s morale.
Inspired by the tile artwork of Antoni Gaudí found throughout Barcelona, I created a pattern that combines open mesh areas to combat the heat of indoor soccer, with a structured grid that withstands the intensity of the game. The team badge is a minimalist design that uses the five points of the pentagon to reference the players on the pitch. The typography, which also references the curvaceous architecture of Gaudí, consists of organic cuts through sans-serif characters, creating a fresh take on the stencil.
