London 2012 Olympic Bottle Opener

Olympic Bottle Opener
London 2012 Commemorative item
During my second year at University I was set the task of designing a London 2012 Olympic themed Bottle Opener. The bottle opener had to be created with manufacture at the forefront of the design- the brief stated that the final product had to be manufactured by both a Turning procedure and a Milling procedure. After quickly creating three concepts (below) it was decided that Concept 3 would be the one chosen for the final product. The design was altered slightly before a CAD model was created. The head of the opener was created using the relevant British Standards for bottle openers.
Once the CAD model was created it became evident that the manufacture of the product would be difficult due to the 3D Olympic Ring design on the handle. Because of this it was decided that Concept 2 would be used, so the project was taken back a step. Concept 2 had a cylindrical handle that can be turned on a lathe, and the head design can be milled on the CNC machine. Below shows some images of the completed CAD model.
Once the CAD model was created the design was put into EdgeCAM so the machining program could be written. The two components (handle and head) were loaded separately so that each would have an individual CAM program. Below shows the 2 videos.
