Serving A Perfect Blend of CGI & Retouch

This year, New York City held the 136th edition of the US Open, hosting the world’s greatest names in tennis as they competed for one of the sport’s most envied Grand Slam titles. To celebrate the competition’s signature cocktail, the Honey Deuce, BBDO New York called on Happy Finish’s integrated production services to assist with the city-wide campaign for Grey Goose. With a tight one week schedule, our team took on the task to plan, shoot, provide CGI, retouch and deliver key OOH artwork.
Collaborating with photographer Mitch Payne, our senior retoucher, Trevor Bittinger, supervised the project's in-studio shoot of the trademark cocktail. In parallel to capturing the Honey Deuce in-camera, CGI artist Roger Hudson created an array of CG-rendered shadows which depict the drink alongside many classic tennis elements, all overlaid on the iconic blue court.
Reflecting back on the project, Trevor added, “There was an emphasis on keeping the natural character of the cocktail while also incorporating a more illustrative element with the graphical shadows. The shadows themselves presented a unique creative challenge, leading us to experiment with both in-camera and CG-rendered shadows, allowing us flexibility to achieve the desired silhouettes very rapidly.”
