Experiment with small paintings

Delta Series

The following works I have approached the ideas of producing small works of art by  first producing this basic  art work. I was then able to experiment with colour and texture without being confined within the small framework. In this project the size of the finished work is indeed small, 5 x 5 cm sq.
Taking as an inspiration are the patterns made by the action of water wending its way though the marshland. The second is the patterns made by the ebb and flow of the tides through the salt flats and finally the sense of the incoming tide slowly flooding the delta

Estuary 1
Called Estuary this work is strongly influence the photos and views of Southampton water at ebb and full tide. While living in Hythe I was fascinated by the ebb and flow of the tidal waters. It was not always your typical seaside scene as the view on my walk for the paper was of mudflats, and at times I must admit rather smelly! What I found interesting were the seemingly arbitrary patterns and textures that the receding tide produced in the mud.
After enjoying the creation of  my Delta series I decided to pursue a similar themes with the Estuary series, and returned to my sketches and photographs from my time in Hampshire.
