Just a thought

This painting describes a state of anxiety whose power can be destructive sometimes... I made this work during my staying in Germany; being far away from my country, I lived a feeling of loneliness which I expressed in this artwork. I chose to paint it on an unconventional material, namely on a glass bottle whose diameter is circular, because the intention was to reveal the dynamic of my tensioned thoughts.

This artwork reflects the idea of isolation from the physical world, in a negative way, due to the fact that mental illness can be a serious cause for this. I was inspired by Syd Barrett's case and I chose to interpret a portrait detail, namely an eye, because this human element can reflect an entire inner world, most of the time unseen by the others...

The details of the iris betray the tendency of looking very carefully in one's soul and mind, in order to discover the inner shadows and lights. A higher level of consciousness is absolutely necessary for this, because otherwise the self knowledge purpose won't be fulfilled.

This composition is the expression of a deep sadness which is disturbing the human soul. The entirely dark cornea symbolises the beginning of a a moral unbalance and, in the same time, of a mental disorder.

I was inspired by one of Francis Bacon's photographies, from which I focused on half of an eye detail. My attention was captured by this aspect, because I intended to problematise his tormented biographical events, as an expression of moral illness, pain and isolation, which are deeply hidden within human soul and have to be discovered.
