This is the homepage for an entire website I created to showcase my brother's showreel. The website can be found at egokick.co.uk. However, at the moment this link will redirect you to my website (doylesdesigns.com) but this is just a temporary arrangement.
I created this web design by following the design brief that my brother had created. He wanted to use his artwork as the background for all of the pages and he had a very dark colour scheme in mind. Black can be an extremely good colour when used correctly - In this circumstance it turned out exactly as intended - His artwork stood out much more on the black background giving it a much more vibrant and eye-catching effect.
I went to work on Adobe Photoshop, creating a black background and then incorporating his art work. In order to not draw all the attention to the background artwork and instead to the actual content of the website I began to lower the opacity of the image and use gradient effects so it neatly blended in well with the black background. I also used additional effects, changing the HDR tone to make it much more variegated.
I then began to create sections for the content keeping to the dark colour scheme - and using a variety of blending techniques and different opacity strengths I managed to make all of the sections fit nicely together, letting the background come through the side navigation bar.
