I choose to do an icon for the widely-known, Davy Jones with the key from its chest from my favorite movie series, Pirates of the Caribbean using the DKNG design style.
My Inspiration
This video gives you a little insight about the character and movie I based my icon project on.
This is Davy Jones holding the key to the chest containing his heart. He keeps the key hidden between his beard-tentacles. I decided to add that detail in my piece so it'b be more recognizable.
The Process
This was my original sketch of what I was planning on doing. After revising, it was better to go with simple and less wavy and crazy tentacles to follow more the DKNG style. I did run into a lot of problems and frustrations with this project because it isn't a scene from a movie, it is representing a character from the movie and expect people to recognize it as the correct thing so that was definitely challenging. With that said, it was my first time using Illustrator to create a graphic so that was tough as well.
