Falun Gong Poster Competition (1st Place)

Falun Gong Student Poster Competition
Falun Gong, also called Falun Dafa, is a peaceful and ancient way to improve mind and body. Core teachings of Falun Gong are truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance. Under those values, the Falun Gong followers meditate and thrive their body and mind. While Falun Gong is practiced openly in more than 70 countries in 1999, the Chinese Communist Party began to persecute the spiritual practice of Falun Gong. The persecution enforced ideological conversion, re-education, and variety of violence such as forced labor and physical tortures. Human rights of Falun Gong practitioners were neglected and ravaged under the name of the governmental control. As of 2009 at least 2,000 Falun Gong practitioners had been tortured to death during the persecution.
When I found these horrendous facts while I was researching more information for the Falun Gong poster competition, I was in shock. I wanted to let people know what was happening behind the word Falun Gong, I wanted to inform them that there are devastated human rights in China, I wanted to tell them there are more than just giving out pamphlets in front of the White House. My first approach was to make the viewers to come closer to the poster and they take a closer look at the issue of Falun Gong by using photo collage. However, the image of Falun can be misunderstood to another symbol, I decided to choose an image that is familiar with many people: people giving out pamphlets on the street. The image I chose was a girl and a mother giving out pamphlets on the street. The eyes of the little girl are determined and sparkling with hope, which came to me as how much she wants justice in this outrageous persecution.
