In early 2015, I was approached to create a series of logos for the premiere of an upcoming tournament hosted by Smogon, an online competitive Pokemon battling community. The tournament was to be titled the Smogon Classic, and was invented to be a celebration of the community over its extensive history.
The tournament would be composed of multiple smaller tourneys, each restricted to the ruleset of a particular generation of the Pokemon games. The project prompt called for an individual logo for each tournament, illustrating a Pokemon integral to the metagame for that particular generation and the traits that made it stand out.
