My Gaudi City (temporary title)

My Gaudi City
This project has come about after taking part in a collaborative initiative at The Core in The Corby Cube, Northamptonshire. Each month practioners from different disciplines come together to 'Play'. The results are showcased twice a year in a live performance for the public. A musician and composer invited me to visually respond to a guitar piece he had comoposed which was inspired by his love of the architect Gaudi. He was also collaborating with a dancer who was to physically interpret Gaudi and the guitar piece through dance. What evolved was a Call and Response Project, where we were all influenced by each other at various stages.
I began by listening the the guitar piece and reflecting this in abstract drawings. These were made within the rehearsal space. I then included in a second drawing, my interpretations of the dance moves. In addition to this and on the back of another personal project of experiments making constructed sketch books, it was suggested that I make some Gaudi sketchbooks. There were also conversations to include filmaking in some form.. to project onto a cinema screen the visual interpretations at the live performance while the guitarist and dancer were performing. After much trial and error, I decided to construct my own Gaudi City.... not a formulaic or prescriptive response but one that was incorporating all the ideas developed in the drawings. This Gaudi City was then filmed by a filmaker, using a steady cam camera. This is in editing stage at the moment, but I look forward to sharing when it is completed.
