The concept is to give a possibility of communication between blind people through a display based on Braille alphabet. In this way the power of light is transforming into an efficient instrument of communication. We are lucky that we are able to see the light, but sometimes we don't perceive all the true matter of things.
For example traditional light source the semiconductor lightemitting diode (LED) also produces heat during its work, amount of which depends on the efficiency of all components
Ultimately only about 30-40% of the input energy is transformed into light, the remaining 60-70% of energy is being converted into heat.
So... What if we could see “ the invisible" and touch “the untouchable" thanks to use of all the energy that light sources consume? Blind people would be able to communicate using the heating and we would see not just a simple light, but also true meaning of the things.
The main idea is to create a surface with two components: electronics (LED chips and microcontroller) and solid ceramic parts with a module based on principles of Braille code. Inside of one module a message will be send and transformed in a way that blind people can read it not because of its relief, but of the heat they can perceive from different points of surface.
cERAMIC FUTURES: from poetry to science fiction is the first social project devoted entirely to ceramics. For its 3rd edition, the project is held in collaboration with École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (EnsAD)IED Torino and Politecnico di Milano.
