The Town Center Mall in Simi Valley California was a new construction by developer Comm Arts. The ambitious project called for a number of sculptural and artistic elements. An interactive fountain, and a massive dragon sculpture, every surface of which we covered with glass mosaic tile.
This happy fellow delights children and passers by in the busy shopping complex.
In our workshop the dragon receives his armored coating of colorful mosaic "scales". This picture reveals the tremendous scale of the piece, made evident by the bus in the background. All complete, including the tale segments our friend is as long as a city bus.
Further down the path four jovial characters make up an interactive water feature, affording visitors and their children an opportunity to cool off in the summer heat.
