My inspiration comes from the book “The Fault In Our Stars” by John Green. He stated, “ There will come a time when all of us are dead. All of us. There will come a time when there are no human beings remaining to remember that anyone ever existed or that our species ever did anything. There will be no one left to remember Aristotle or Cleopatra, let alone you. Everything that we did and built and wrote and thought and discovered will be forgotten and all of this will have been for naught.” To me, human oblivion is inevitable. Everything in this world will eventually fade away. In other words, everything this world holds is subject to oblivion. Birth, aging, sickness and death. From ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Maybe the existence of us is unreal; maybe there is one day that no one remembers what we have done. Remembrance is not a must. In my work, the sentiment of the girl who accepts her fate in oblivion is depicted. She goes with her destiny peacefully in nature’s arrangement. Perhaps by obscuring everything, picking up fragments of the past, disconnected traces and ungraspable human destinies is the art of memory, the art of oblivion.
