Mari 3.0 New Features by Zihua Creative

Thank you for stopping by, these promotional work was created for Foundry Mari 3.0 New Features for Zihua Creative. The model was downloaded from TurboSquid.

The rock is done in Zbrush, one sided - did only what the camera saw. And the extreme background is a picture I took
I did not have a concept for it - just wanted to create an expendable unmanned infiltrator/spy machine. Well, spiders are cunning and deceivious & treacherous creatures in popular tales, so why not. Besides I really liked the cute model.
The UVW mapping was quite easy to achieve, though it might look time consuming. All the legs, screws, nuts-bolts & repetitive models have overlapping UVs.
This is the first time I tested Mari & Marmoset Toolbag together, no special setup required. I just divided shaders based on UDIMs and the texture kept updating whenever I export. Unlike in Arnold, where I need to flush caches. Besides Marmoset testing was way faster. The final was in Arnold though

I think the time went in rendering the look for the gun metal - that grey'ish-blue heavy metal; Still don't feel I quite achieved it. But since I was nearing deadline for Mari 3.0 release, had to settle for what I had.
Using Mari3.0's Modo renderer was really great to visualize textures before taking it out. But used it sparingly.
Had 10 UDIM at 4096. The render time on Arnold on my i7 4940K was little above 2:50'ish at 2K resolution.
The final image way above was approximately 8:00
Quick design motives below, was going for a military camo texture - then I changed my mind when I started the work. The design was based on the terrain of operation.
Displayed here for portfolio purposes only. Thank you for checking it out. Love Mari, Arnold & MarmoT and I had a blast creating the content for Zihua.
